Muhammed Muheisen: Moments in Time
Serbia
May 2026
For the first time in Serbia, ‘Moments in Time’ photo exhibition by Muhammed Muheisen officially opened on May 19, 2026, at Silosi. Organized by the International Organization for Migration with the support of the European Union, the exhibition brings together photographs captured over nearly two decades across Afghanistan, Jordan, Pakistan, Greece, Croatia, Serbia, Ukraine and beyond. Through images documenting displacement, resilience and everyday life, the exhibition offers a deeply personal perspective on migration and the human stories often left unseen behind global headlines.
Presented inside the industrial setting of Silosi along the Belgrade riverfront, the exhibition invites visitors into moments of humanity, memory and hope captured throughout Muheisen’s journeys documenting communities affected by conflict and displacement.
The exclusive opening night welcomed representatives from international organizations, the diplomatic community, media, photographers, students and cultural figures from across Serbia. Set inside the industrial atmosphere of Silosi on the Belgrade riverfront, the exhibition invited visitors into stories of displacement, resilience, hope and memory — themes that have defined Muhammed Muheisen’s work for more than twenty years. Throughout the evening, guests explored photographs captured across different parts of the world, reflecting both the challenges and the humanity found within communities affected by conflict and migration. The exhibition space became a meeting point for conversations around visual storytelling, identity and the power of photography to connect people across cultures and experiences, while highlighting photography as a force for good.
On May 20, Muhammed Muheisen continued the program with his live stage talk “My Journey” and a film screening at Europe House Belgrade, bringing together photographers, students, journalists and members of the public for an evening dedicated to the power of visual storytelling. Through a selection of photographs, personal reflections and stories from the field, Muheisen shared insights from more than two decades of documenting communities affected by conflict, migration and displacement across different parts of the world.
The evening focused on the role photography can play in shaping public awareness, challenging stereotypes and creating empathy beyond headlines and statistics. Muheisen also reflected on the importance of bringing an actual difference to communities through the work of the Everyday Refugees Foundation in different parts of the world, highlighting how storytelling can become a bridge between awareness and action. By sharing moments of everyday life, resilience and hope witnessed throughout his journeys, he emphasized the importance of preserving human stories and using photography as a tool for connection, understanding and positive impact.
